Back in the day, Rallye Deutschland was a lesser known rally run in the vineyards alongside the banks of the Mosel. The neighboring Hunsruck Rally - a coefficient 20 ranking round of the European Rally Championship - was concentrated mainly in the Baumholder military training area, notorious for its car breaking hinkelsteins (huge stones at the side of the road used to keep tanks on-course). After 20-years of political squabbling between the two events, the ADAC combined both into what we know today as Rallye Deutschland and in 2002 the rally was granted a slot on the World Championship calendar. Since its WRC inception, Rallye Deutschland has been totally dominated by Sebastien Loeb, he has performed the clean sweep: seven wins from seven starts. As this gallery shows there was plenty of variety in the cars that took part in the old Hunsruck and no driver ever dominated this event in the emphatic style of Mr Loeb.
