Alastair Fisher believes he is ready to tackle more events in a Super 2000 car following his competitive debut in one of the machines on the recent Donegal International Rally in Ireland.

The 22-year-old finished second overall in the same Ford Fiesta S2000 Mikko Hirvonen used to win the Monte Carlo Rally in 2010. In doing so he set a number of fastest stage times and finished ahead of several World Rally Cars.

Fisher took advantage of a break in the FIA WRC Academy schedule, which he is contesting this season, to compete in Donegal but currently has no further plans to drive the Fiesta S2000 again. However, if the opportunity did arise then Fisher said he would be able to hit the ground running.

“I went there aiming to get experience of driving a Super 2000 car on one of the toughest tarmac rallies out there,” said Fisher. “But we’ve also set some fastest stage times, won class R4 and finished second overall having led during the first day. At the same time I’ve built up a lot of confidence driving a Super 2000 car should the opportunity arise in the future.”

Fisher’s next event is Rally Estonia, which he is using to prepare for Rally Finland, the third round of the WRC Academy.
