David Higgins says he has the right car to defend his Rally America National title but admits he’ll face strong opposition in his bid to secure top honours for Subaru Rally Team USA.

Higgins, who will be co-driven by fellow Brit Craig Drew, kicks-off his title defence on the Sno*Drift Rally in Michigan today (Friday).

He said: “I’m excited to defend my title with Subaru as we have made some great progress in the development of our STI rally car in the off-season, and so the confidence is high right now.

“The Rally America championship is a fantastic series with a great mix of events and conditions coupled with a very high level of competition. I expect 2012 to be a big fight but we have the right car and the right team.”

X Games hero Dave Mirra will continue to partner Higgins at Subaru Rally Team USA but is likely to focus on the Global RallyCross Championship instead.

Canadian Antoine L’Estage is expected to rival Higgins for the Rally America crown in his John Buffum-prepared Mitsubishi Lancer.
