The most famous Ford Fiesta Super 2000 built so far – the car that Mikko Hirvonen took to victory on the Monte Carlo Rally in January 2010 – will be back in action on an asphalt event in Ireland this weekend.

Hirvonen was victorious on the Intercontinental Rally Challenge season-opener two years ago in an M-Sport Ford Fiesta S2000, registered MM59ORT.

Now 22-year-old Alastair Fisher, the rising rally star from Northern Ireland, will get behind the wheel of the machine on the all-asphalt Donegal International Rally.

“A drive in a Super 2000 car is something I’ve been looking to try out since the start of this year and it’s great to be doing it in a car with a proven track record,” said Fisher. “We’re going to be up against World Rally Cars on very fast stages so it will be interesting to see how we compare. The most important thing is to get to the finish and get lots of experience.”

Fisher, who currently competes on the WRC Academy in an R2 version of the Ford Fiesta, is currently looking at other international outings in the Super 2000 car, which may include some rounds of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge.
