Freddy Loix has dismissed talk of an Intercontinental Rally Challenge title bid following confirmation that he will contest at least three more rounds of this year’s series.

Loix made a winning a return to the IRC in Ypres last month at the wheel of a factory-run Skoda Fabia Super 2000 Facelift. He will now tackle the asphalt events in Madeira, Czech Republic and Italy in the latest evolution Fabia, albeit run by the Rene Georges Rally Sport squad.

He said: “On paper maybe it could be possible [to win the title] but in reality guys like Juho Hanninen, Jan Kopecky and Kris Meeke are going to win this championship. I will of course want to be on the podium but I also know I can help the other Skoda drivers a little bit.”

Loix, 39, has backing from Belgian finance firm BFO for his campaign. In addition to his IRC programme, Loix will also enter the Belgian championship Rallye du Condroz-Huy from November 6-8, while an outing on Rallye du Var in France from November 26-28 has since been added to his schedule following his victory in Ypres.

“Doing Condroz is always nice of the spectators but, as a present from my sponsor after my victory in Ypres, I am also going to do the Rallye de Var,” said Loix, who lives in the south of France, close to where Rallye du Var is based.

It is midway through day-6 of the 9 day event and the winner Bjorn Waldegard sits stoically in his battered Porsche 911. This car has just had a large section of the roll cage replaced because of extensive damage sustained after Bjorn lost control in a slippery mud-hole and hit a stranded truck. The repair was expertly effected by the Tuthill Porsche team, who cannibalised a retired 911 to repair Waldegard's version in real African 'back-street-garage' style. Incredibly only 41 minutes in road penalties were lost.
