Bjorn Waldegard, who won last November’s East African Safari Classic driving for Tuthill Porsche, will make a rare appearance in a Porsche 914-6 – similar to the one he drove to equal third place on the Monte Carlo Rally in 1971 – at next month’s Race Retro event in the UK.

Waldegard, the inaugural world rally champion, was the leading Porsche finisher on the snow-hit event when team-mates Ake Andersson and Gerard Larrousse retired their sister cars with gearbox problems. Ove Andersson, in an Alpine Renault A110, won ahead of fellow Alpine driver Jean-Luc Therier. Waldegard tied for third with Jean-Claude Andruet.

The Swede will drive the 914-6 owned by Jamiroquai frontman and car enthusiast Jay Kay in a series of demonstrations. Kay will also get behind the wheel at the event near Coventry from February 25/26.
